The Presence

This is a view of Jupiter from its first (major) moon, Amalthea. Amalthea is presumed to be a captured asteroid, since it is irregularly shaped, and only 150 miles long.

This small moon has a commanding view of the planet, which spans 45 degrees of sky, the equivalent of 90 full moons on Earth. Even with your back turned to Jupiter, you would still feel its Presence.

featured in OMNI and SKY & TELESCOPE.
